  ActiveWin.com: Microsoft Origami Discovered
Time: 11:58 EST/16:58 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Byron Hinson

To get there: Click DK, Then the large Enter, Then Work, Then BrandTheater, then Microsoft Origami.

One you've watched the video, you'll get an idea about what kind of hardware Origami will be. Looks like a Tablet PC, can play music and games too from the look of it. Likely to be expensive again though, lets just hope they don't price them out of the market like the last batch of underperforming Tablet PC's

Let's hope it doesn't use the old Win XP look like the video shows though - why release something like this with a 5 year old look with Vista just around the corner?

Here is the Flash file converted by me to make it easier for those to pass it along.

Byron, other reports suggest that these devices will use Vista, so I imagine that the luna theme that we see is just placeholder. There could be various reasons why Vista isn't being demo'ed on it yet, such as broken pen support or bugs. Heck, I suppose that it's even possible that the devices in the video had their displays composited in in post-production and the 3rd-party that did it used XP because they didn't know better or it was simply more practical. Regardless, I would expect the shipping products to exploit Vista and it's look and feel. You wouldn't want your cutting edge device sporting a 5-year-old look, anyways.

Speaking of Vista and UIs, since Intel is supposedly going into these things, I hope that they're able to include their newest integrated video chipset that supports Aero Glass. Having that on such a small device would be simply awesome. Some of the luster of the device might be taken away if it supports only Aero (non-Glass).

Yeah I'd been reading the same thing, which is why it would seem strange that they were showing it off like this....as its an advertising vid and the stuff people were doing on wasn't really being done in real time, thats why i was surprised it didn't have a vista look. Though not surprised to see Halo running around 3 fps! Looks promising as long as it uses vista.

Engadget.com broke some pictures a couple of days ago, if anyone doesn't want to watch a video:

Ignore the article, itself; they get just about nothing right and have no clue what the device is. The video makes it clear what it is, but if you just want pictures, visit that link.
