Microsoft: Outlook's not broken and we aren't 'fixing' it
Time: 09:02 EST/14:02 GMT | News Source: | Posted By: Kenneth van Surksum

Microsoft’s decision to change the rendering engine in its Outlook mail client from HTML to the Word rendering engine back in 2007 wasn’t one of its most popular moves. In fact, there are still more than a few Outlook users who are hoping against hope that an online campaign might result in Microsoft backtracking with Outlook 2010 and going back to HTML rendering.

I just love how monopolists listen to their customers...

A bunch of idiots on Twitter does not constitute a majority.
If they want to create a standard for how e-mail is presented, they should go through... you know... a Standards body.

"a Standards body"
hahahaha yeah because Microsoft have a track record of listening to standards bodies! I think the customers have a better chance of being listened to... which isn't much of a chance!

Agreed with fatshady.

In fact, I'd say there's more users of Outlook that couldn't care less about flashing, stupid, gaudy e-mails that get sent from "marketing" companies. For them, this is a GOOD THING.

Funny enough if someone hadn't told me they changed the engine I would have never noticed it.

And honestly TL there are plenty of amazing choices for corporate e-mail. Lotus Notes, Groupwise, GMail Corporate, that Linux PoP3/IMAP/SMTP server thing.

Obviously Outlook/Exchange gained all its marketshare by putting a gun to Customers's heads not listening to their complaints, comments, or needs.

If Outlook used the IE rendering engine then it would have to have IE... Not sure but in the European Union IE is out. What then, another version of MS Office for the Europeans? There are logical valid reasons why this happened and why MS won't go back.

#6 You can have the HTML rendered without having IE... so that's not the reason at all. It has nothing to do with the EU. It has more to do with the potential for viruses, exploits and other generally annoying things that you could do with html emails... unfortunately this also kills a lot of really useful functions for html emails like invitations where you want people to respond with their selections.

#5 Obviously Outlook/Exchange didn't gain all its marketshare by putting a gun to customer's heads, figuratively speaking or otherwise. What a really stupid thing to say.
