ActiveWin.com: HP Z210 Small Form Factor (SFF) Workstation - Review
Time: 00:01 EST/05:01 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

Andre has posted his review of the powerhouse workstation HP has sent us to review, the Z210 SFF. Here is an excerpt:

A few years ago I made a vow to myself that I would not invest in another desktop because the tradeoffs they required such as desktop real estate, weight, separate keyboard, mouse and of course a monitor were becoming too much. My belief at the time was and still is, laptops are getting more powerful each year and even some models from major brands such as HP could make a good desktop replacement. There is just one area laptops have not caught up and that is raw power. Desktops remain a good choice because of the choice components used and a little thing called expandability. This review takes a look at a system unit from Hewlett Packard, the Z210 Workstation which out of the box packs a punch in a sleek slim line unit that not only is perfect for cramped spaces but offers little compromise allowing you to easily add and upgrade components with its easy to open chassis. Let’s take a look at the specifications:

They can have my desktop when they pry it from my cold, dead, carpal-tunneled hands.

Seriously, laptops still aren't as powerful as desktops (although they are getting better) and most serious developers want big time screen real estate. My laptop docking station at work plugs into a 24 inch monitor and a 20 inch monitor with USB keyboard and Bluetooth mouse (courtesy of ActiveWin). So the argument about a laptop saving desk space is not always true.

I built my desktop over 3.5 years ago and I just order more ram and am planning to get a SSD hard drive. Those upgrades should last me another 3-4 years. I have yet to see any laptop last that long from a performance and durability standpoint.

People think Mac's are expensive because they are expensive. $2,499.00 for the cheapest Mac Pro desktop - and that's with only 3 gig of memory. What a bargain!

I dont have time to convert HP's marketing URLs. That comment should be directed towards them. I have ActiveW.IN but of course the programmer is slow as moses.
