Microsoft Backed The Wrong Horse (At The Derby)
Time: 10:11 EST/15:11 GMT | News Source: Forbes.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

The problem with sponsoring a horse at one of America’s most high profile races is what happens after the race. If you put a regular bet on a horse, all you lose is your money. Put the Microsoft name and a bit of PR effort behind the runner and you risk a lot more. So Windows Phone’s sponsoring of ‘Hansen’ at the Kentucky Derby was always going to be a risky move. There are far too many metaphors around horse racing for writers and editors to resist, especially when the favoured horse loses. Throw in a weekend with little hard news or popular software titles being updated in the Windows Marketplace… and you’ll get some classics.
