  Microsoft launches App Idol competition for Windows 8 app developers

Software house Microsoft is running a competition for app developers that will reward prize winning Windows 8 software with a place in a television advert and a chunk of cash. The competition is called App Star and is introduced to developers by Todd Brix, senior director of Microsoft's Windows Phone apps team.

This is OK for starters but when you are playing catch up, desperate measures are called for.

Other ideas would be:

MS should just pay the makers of the top apps in other stores to make the same quality apps for for Win 8 and WP8.

MS should give full profits for the first year to all developers of paid apps.

MS should put more app developers on their own payroll.

MS should partner with other companies and give them a break on software prices if they develop apps for 8.
