MSN 8 Asks Users to Pay for Some Online Services
Time: 16:00 EST/21:00 GMT | News Source: Gartner | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Microsoft's decision to move MSN to a partial for-pay model reasonably extends the trend in which content and application providers seek financial legitimacy by countering the popular mid-1990s assertion that information ("content" is the more common term in 2002) "wants to be free." The precipitous decline in competition among Internet information and interaction hubs makes the for-pay business model more defensible than ever — the critical issue here.

#306 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 1:48:06 AM
the wmp 9 build is actually earlier than the build of the public beta 1. i'm about confused on this one.

#307 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 1:54:27 AM
2799 was the first public Beta 1. This one is 2800.

Taken from my post in the other thread:

"I think 2848 is the private beta (unless the build on the site is incorrect).
The public betas lag behind the private betas so they can go through greater stability and compatability testing. "

Ya know, I think it'll be a while before this record is broken.

#313 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 2:02:13 AM

Maybe we should have our own chat room :-)

#315 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 2:47:16 AM
i think it'll be a while before this record stops being made.

#316 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 2:48:14 AM
hmm, chat room. if i didn't get post count out of it, it might be harder to do, well at least for like four or five nights in a row or whatever our record is.

#317 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 2:49:25 AM
I keep forgetting about postcounts :-)

#318 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 3:20:33 AM
since i bring it up every ten posts or so, how can you forget? Lol!

#319 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 3:23:32 AM
Just sorta slips my mind.
I didn't think much of my postcount until you mentioned 100 posts in 24 hours. Then I realized that I just got to 600 posts yesterday. Now I'm close to 700.

#320 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 3:29:08 AM
do you watch anime? i'm trying to remember the name of an anime and i can't. i've done google and several anime sights, but i can't remeber the title or a single character.

the last few posts describe what i'm trying to remember.

#322 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 3:43:53 AM
I watch a little anime. Mostly what airs on Cartoon Network and on the Ineternet. Schoolwork doesn't leave me much time usually.

There was an almost invicible clownman on Cowboy Beebop.

#323 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 3:48:44 AM
There was? Hmm, I've seen all the beebops several times and don't remember that. Anyway, that's not the one I'm trying to remember.

I had a roommate (not the robotech one) who was an artist. He owned tons of anime. Last year when I was having my Diablo II adiction (i played for three weeks straight - quite literally, I slept (a little), ate (when my roommate forced me to), and played. It was great) he'd be watching anime while I was playing DII on my laptop. Thank goodness for long cat5! I'll have to see if I can find his number tomorrow, so I can find out what that series was called. I'm so flustered about it, I just watched the "switch" ads to take my mind off of it.

#324 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 3:53:28 AM
Prolonged exposure to the Switch ads leads to brain damage. :-)

They are good for a laugh. If only they didn't slander Windows. That really bugs me.
