  Microsoft Under Fire from Nintendo Management
Time: 09:23 EST/14:23 GMT | News Source: E-Mail | Posted By: Brian Kvalheim

Why the push towards Xbox Next, console bundles, and Grand Theft Auto have one Nintendo manager steamed. Nintendo Europe managing director David Gosen has strongly criticised Microsoft for attempting to drive the industry to a hardware transition too early, and also attacked the games media for its focus on the next generation. Speaking at the ELSPA Games Summit in London, Gosen described the industry's current generational cycle as a "self-fulfilling prophecy," saying that the industry was stuck in a mindset where "five to six years is right, and come what may, we're going to stick to it."

Sounds like a lot of sour grapes....

Many companies terminate products after a short period. Look at Sony...they are dumping their Palm OS PDA.

Confucius said complacency breeds stagnation. Nintendo: move fast or get ready to join Sega and Atari on the dust heap of obsolete gaming systems.

I don't recall. You could be right. I think they were called the Clie or something like that?

I agree, Nintendo needs to get with the program. If MS can make a console that can be upgraded (like a PC)--new parts, more RAM, bigger HD, etc.--then why not? Heck, if they want to "legitimize" the modding community they should release all the specs and tell people that they can just go to town on the machine provided:

(1) doing so instantly voids the warranty;
(2) XBox live service won't function.

Other than that, like a local LAN get together, the systems would work. You could have a whole new industry of hobbists, especially if the parts are cheap.

#3, #6 Sony's Clie uses Palm's OS but includes a great package of software from a number of different sources. Too pricey for me, but way cool.

PS2 had a larger library to begin with, but they are not releasing more games than the Xbox.

I've got to agree with mssucks on this one (for different reasons). I'm much more likely to play a game seated at my PC rather than sitting in front of my television. Granted I don't yet have a current gaming system (I've got a PS1).

Personally I think the games on the PC are really hitting a good stride again, this year promises some very nice games for PC users that should be quite fun.

I'm not sure what's up for Xbox or PS2 for the year. Does anyone have some recommendations on good Xbox games? I should be recieving one shortly.

happyguy and diaphanein, do you all like to play "pc games" or games "on the pc". Because all 3 nextgen consoles will likely allow a hookup to a pc monitor.

#25 Hooking up a console to a PC monitor sounds kind of stupid. I play PC Games because there are several titles that I enjoy that I don't feel play well on consoles (RTS, RPG and FPS mainly). Basically my answer is the exact same as diaphaneins'.

Come on, guys, end this retarded contest!! You might get some more advertisers by artificially inflating your hits, but your hits were decreasing because the site was starting to suck. All of these stupid articles with Mr. Dee sure to post some completely pointless comment are just making it suck more!!
