#1 Depends on the circumstances of the bug/exploit. If knowledge of how to perform the attack (and it's critical enough) is in the wild I think MS would break the monthly cycle to get an update ASAP. Otherwise they would just hold off until the normal scheduled time.

Home users have automatic update.

Small businesses have SUS

Large businesses have SMS

Security updates issued by Microsoft have already been applied where I work - some 85k+ workstations and laptops and thousands of servers.

Next . . .

#1--when they went to monthly patching, they mentioned that they would release patches out-of-cycle if necessary.

#11 That's why you apply the patch to your laptop and if it works push it out to the entire organization.

No, happyguy, that's why it's a pain in the ass... Testing a patch on a laptop with Office is a whole lot different than patching a SQL Server server or an Exchange server or an ISA server or a Domain Server or a Sharepoint server or a ... see my point yet?

#13 Yes I do, I was being sarcastic (see prior patch management techniques from parkker). Prolly should've signified that in some way :)

#16 Not a feasable solution, several smaller companies don't have the resources to dedicate a server to a particular task. I think this would only increase the amount of headaches alot of people already have with Windows.

Note to admins: Please kill that full screen E-bay ad. I'm fairly familiar with Ebay and have heard of it before, I don't need to be reminded of it via a full screen ad.

The smaller pop-ups are irritating enough in their own right, but this really takes the cake.

"Or save time and resources by going mySQL and PHP."

Wrong!

Come on, guys, end this retarded contest!! You might get some more advertisers by artificially inflating your hits, but your hits were decreasing because the site was starting to suck. All of these stupid articles with Mr. Dee sure to post some completely pointless comment are just making it suck more!!

Whatever you want your name to be. Act the fool, get called a fool.

Can you explain what's unlucky about 29 though? I'm curious about that.

#22 At work I don't have a popup blocker installed, nor am I allowed one. They are not part of the approved software for the network. So I have no choice in the matter. At home I don't experience the popups.

#23 I never get popups at home with Firefox.
