Microsoft Is Planning To Renew IE Development
Time: 05:40 EST/10:40 GMT | News Source: Slashdot | Posted By: Byron Hinson

jm.one writes "In his weblog the Mozilla developer Gervase Markham (aka Gerv) points out that Microsoft is re-constituting the Windows IE team. You can save Mozillazine's bandwidth(they've been /.ed every day this week) by directly checking out this post at Dave Massy's WebLog at MSDN. They even have set up an IE Feedback section in their channel9 wiki."

Reconstitutiong makes it sould like they broke the dev team up... that can't be right, why would they be so stupid as to do something like that when IE is so integral to the whole of Windows.

Maybe now they'll add tabs, so the Firefox and Mozilla and Opera people will shut up.

Hi,

The move has more to do with support to web developers and what will be easier for them to add - e.g., support for PNG32, etc...

Also, as part of planned support for the increasing use of secure web services - again, to support developers and finally, better integration for developers splitting the presentation layer with the simultaneous ue of Visual Studio .Net and Front Page 2003. The end result will be easier, less costly devlopment and the ability to rapidly develop web aplications with a richer look and feel and improved functionality.

I'd imagine that when people more fully assess the security enabled with XP SP2 that they will see that most of that has been addressed very well.

I'd also expect to see improved support for API's used by first and third party developers of anti-mal-ware software - including that which stops ad-ware, spy-ware, etc...

It's a good thing, but also a very natural part of the evolution of web services, the tools division and on-going development for Longhorn.

Personally, I question the future relevance of the browser and agree with the camp looking toward CLI and CLR - the browser is irrelevant, but most just don't know that, yet.

Thanks, Lloyd

Cthulhu, yes, reconstituted. Dave Massy was switched over to a "Longhorn Evangalist" and a number of key IE dev'ers were switched over to other positions. Now these guys are being "reconstituted" as an IE team again. Yes, it is right, and yes, it was stupid.

#6 Teams can exist under the Windows groups.

Good. Microsoft, please! Plug the freakin' holes already!!!

It would not bug me one bit if you disabled ActiveX installations, permanently, as well!

TL

P.S.

If it sounds like IE is pissing me off lately, that's because it is. 30% of my support hours are now spent removing Spyware and Adware from users computers. 95% of it comes in through IE in one way or another. This is also the #2 reason now for system re-images (beaten out only by Cascades).

Life is too short for this crap.
