Internet Explorer keeps losing market share
Time: 12:04 EST/17:04 GMT | News Source: Computer Weekly | Posted By: Brian Kvalheim

Although Microsoft still dominates the web browser space, its Internet Explorer continues to lose market share to open-source rival Mozilla. Internet Explorer held more than 95% of the US browser market for several years, but its share dropped to 94.7% in July and had declined further to 92.9% on 29 October, WebSideStory, a web metrics company, said. Benefiting from high-profile security vulnerabilities in the Microsoft browser and recommendations by experts to switch, the Mozilla Foundation saw its market share rise.

Well, IE helps me sleep, so thanks for your concern.

As for #5, IE supports themes, add-ons, intelligent download windows which are all very nice. Well before Firefox ever did as a matter of fact.

Nothing as far as I know Halcyon. But free shells are easy to install and download. The majority of users that want add-ons and extensions will normally be a bit more advanced, and can easily google for IE themes or add-ons and get thousands of hits. While I agree that MS should make them more accessible, they are indeed there and work great, and in many cases, better than Firefox.

halcyon - "If IE introduced them, Firefox made them famous"

First of all, its not "IF" IE introduced them. They DID introduce them.

Second of all, Firefox didn't make them famous. Firefox itself isn't famous. Ask 95% of the population if they browse with firefox and they'll have no clue what you are talking about.

Halcyon, what color is the sky in your world?

I have several friends that have not heard about Firefox. After telling them about it, they tried and most have dumped IE for it :)

First, secunia is not the be all. Secondly, Firefox is insecure.

"Secondly, Firefox is insecure."

I see your continued rampage to try to discredit Firefox as a compliment to its success. You feel as though you need to educate us idiots since we are obviously too stupid to see the problems with firefox. I wonder why you aren't able to come up with good enough facts to make us see the light?

tgnb,

We will have to agree to disagree.

BTW, don't call yourself an idiot. I surely wouldn't consider you an idiot.

"BTW, don't call yourself an idiot. I surely wouldn't consider you an idiot."

I feel like an idiot because I use Firefox all day and night and don't see any of the problems you're experiencing and warning others about everytime an article about Firefox or IE pops up on here.

Not everyone has the same experiences tgnb. Not much you can do about that.
