Microsoft Vista will ignore your monitor? | |

A REPORT said an implementation of a system wide content protection scheme in Microsoft Vista will mean many screens will display a "monitor revoked" message. According to an article in PC World, the scheme called PVP-OPM is intended to stop pirated disks from displaying their content. But a side effect means that the same scheme will lock out displays which don't support PVP-OPM. |

Not even MS is dumb enough to think that they can get away with forcing users to upgrade their monitors just to run Vista. There's gotta be a Yakov Smirnov joke here somewhere...

Actually, this is a valid point. It's been discused before.
The only thing is, while it is _possible_ for this to happen because the technology will be built into Vista, will anyone dare use it? TL |

Latch--hilarious... I wonder what Yakov is up to these days.
What I had heard was that the monitors not supporting the "protected output" would receive a slightly degraded picture. That's not great either, but at least you'd still be able to watch it. |
