Microsoft this Friday will ship the final pre-release version of Windows Vista and, unexpectedly, will name the release as Release Candidate 2 (RC2). Previously, Microsoft had publicly asserted that it would not ship an RC2 milestone release of Windows Vista. But don't let the name fool you: RC2 is really just a standard interim build of Vista and will not be given out to millions of users as was RC1.
The RC2 build is 5743, and Microsoft is currently testing it internally. As with the previous interim build, 5728, RC2 will be given out to beta testers, MSDN and TechNet subscribers, and a random, limited selection of Consumer Preview Program (CPP) members.

So did I TL - maybe by the time we get RC2, RC3 will be out!

TL, you can install RC1 [5600], then DL 5728, or 5748 and use ImgBurn on Vista to grab a cy of the ISO - then inside Vista, do an upgrade over 5600 to either of the later interim builds - takes about 50 minutes and is fire and forget.

I already have RC1 installed, but the later versions are not available to me as far as I know.

TL, go here, http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/rc1/en/download-5728.htm
This is the best source - right from the team building Vista. Subsequent builds will be available
here, too - you may use the same key you have been using for BETA2. Be sure to upgrade "inside" Vista [unless you wish to do a clean install]. If you want, you can add the WMDC - Windows Mobile Device Center, by adding a new reg key as at,
"WHOS" (without the quotes of course) in HKLM\Software\Microsoft
Then connect a Windows Mobile 5.x device and run a Windows Update - it will pull down an 8 MB file and install WMDC support into 5728 and Friday's 5748. 5728 really hauls the mail - much quicker than 5600.

lketchum,
That site's been offline for at least two days, redirecting to the main RC1 download page.
Essentially, if you don't grab the new build within a few days of it being available, you're SOL, unless you're an official beta tester, MSDN, or TechNet subscriber.

#6, Thank you - hadn't seen that it had been re-directed. I know it was good for a while.
TL, I'd check it regularly on Friday - perhaps they'll widen 5748.
