Bloomberg News broke the news yesterday that Microsoft will be allowed to argue that patents held by research firm Eolas Technologies regarding the ability to embed functionality in a Web browser page are invalid, when a retrial of Eolas' long-running patent suit begins on July 9.

I love that the precedent is being set. This opens the door for other patents to have their validity argued too, including those owned by Microsoft. And the Eolas patent is crap anyway. I have to root for Microsoft on this one.

I have no issue with the argument taking place, but arguing is one thing and acceptance is quite another. I can only hope that the judge is technically savvy enough to understand what's being said. Although I doubt it.
