Apple is advertising Safari for Windows as “the world’s fastest and easiest-to-use web browser.” Fast, maybe, in page rendering speed, but ridiculously slow to launch... on my brand new, 2.33 GHz Core-2 Duo laptop, it takes an insane amount of time to launch: 57 seconds, during which you don't even get an hourglass, so you don't even know it's launching. By comparison, Firefox takes about 3 seconds and Internet Explorer takes about 2.

"UPDATE: OK, I'm wrong. As far as I can tell, Safari is slow the first (few?) times you run it, while it does something, I don't know what, but once that thing is done, it launches as fast as other browers. Sorry!"
No surprise seeing it worked fast right away for me, probably the reason it is called a Beta.

I don't think its Safari that was doing something those first few times for you, it was probably something else. mine was instant on my computer which really surprised me because even notepad of my computer takes at least 10 seconds. I know, my computers stuffed, but Safari is the fastest program on my computer.

Runs pretty well for me.
Probably has something to do with SSE2 and SSE3 extenstions that the browser uses.

It was faster than both FF2 and IE7 for me (at least on the limited pages I visited).

The author needs to read up on SuperFetch in Windows Vista to understand why and how Safari 3 BETA launched more quickly after having been used several times - ANY application will do that under Vista, if used several times. Vista will even learn when one uses a program - say, after lunch, etc...

Actually, it only takes that amount of time to launch Safari the first time you run it. After that, start times are about the same as Firefox.

The fastest install to un-install on my PC. It's to austere, no VISTA bling. I'll keep IE7 and FireFox.

This is where SVS comes in handy. Create a virtual layer, install the app in the layer, play with the app, delete the layer when done playing. Poof, no sign the app was ever installed on your system.

Safari = Trojan Horse
"It took all of two hours for researchers to find 6 bugs in the Windows version of Safari, 4 DoS attacks and 2 remote code execution bugs.
Now granted, Safari is a beta and some bugs are to be expected, but six in one afternoon does not bode well for Apple’s second foray into Windows software."

BADBUNNY
"Malicious software targeting OpenOffice.org documents is spreading through multiple operating systems, according to Symantec.
"A new worm is being distributed within malicious OpenOffice documents. The worm can infect Windows, Linux and Mac OS X systems," according to a Symantec Security Response advisory. "Be cautious when handling OpenOffice files from unknown sources."
Apple's Mac OS is not a virus-free platform, said Jan Hruska, who co-founded rival antivirus firm Sophos and was one of the first ever PC antivirus experts.
"Viruses on the Mac are here and now. They are available, and they are moving around. It is not as though the Mac is in some miraculous way a virus-free environment," Hruska said. "The number of viruses coming out for non-Mac platforms is higher. It gives a false impression that somehow, Apple Macs are all virus-free." "
