Microsoft Xbox Chief Peter Moore: Did he jump or was he pushed?
Time: 00:13 EST/05:13 GMT | News Source: ZDNet | Posted By: Kenneth van Surksum

Peter Moore, the Corporate Vice President of Microosft’s Interactive Entertainment Business — and the point guy on Xbox and Games for Windows — is leaving Microsoft to become President of Electronic Arts’ Sports label.

Microsoft made the announcement of Moore’s pending departure (he starts at EA in September) on July 17, twelve days after after taking a $1 billion-plus charge for faulty Xbox hardware in the quarter which ended June 30. (Moore’s replacement is Don Mattrick, a former president at Electronic Arts.)

Microsoft’s official word is Moore resigned. Skeptics are wondering whether he is the scapegoat for the Xbox hardware meltdown. Just days before admitting the “Three Rings of Death” was a real problem affecting more than a handful of vociferous users, Moore was the stand-up guy taking the lumps for Microsoft.

Hard to say, but I would actually think the type of person Peter Moore is, he was disappointed with the stance MS was making in regards to the 360 faults, it took them so long to announce it and really publically he takes all the flack for bad design decisions not actually made by him. Happens a lot in this industry.

fwiw, on the gamerscore podcast, he flatly denied that his departure was due to the warranty extension.

regardless, change is good. I do like Peter Moore, but from what I read... the new guy is awesome. In the same podcast, Peter says his replacement is the best possible choice to take the job after him.

Read somewhere that MSFT basically traded up from a future EA VP (1/4 of EA) for a former President of EA (entire company).

it had nothing to do with issues, this entire move has been in the works for months, not to mention the bags of cash that they are throwing at peter to get him over to EA... also if you notice it's probably not a conincidence that the head of 360 is former EA nd the head of EA sports is now from MS.... with the whol 360 EA games at 60fps vs only 30fps on the ps3.... lets just say i get the feeling EA is going to get "tired" of the ps3 quite quickly
