Unconfirmed ! Microsoft is secretly working on a new OS with the core team of Vista, sounds exciting? well indeed it is. Some insiders have told me that this new OS is not based on DOS unlike all Windows and it wont be prefix Windows just Omnigo as for now. This OS is being built for their future devices such as Surface and upcoming Gadgets(I sense Mac OS X) and moreover the development is moving rapidly as if Microsoft is planning to release this by 2008 itself. The team behind this project have all been the part of original Windows thus everybody is really enjoying working together and enthusiastic about this upcoming OS.
Coming on to features it is confirmed that you wouldn't require keyboard or mouse to use it, It will be used in touchscreen interface and since its being developed from scratch specifically for such devices. It might give Mac OS X a tough competition with gadgets like Surface, Zune Phone (maybe).
Lets hope for the best, although we can't really expect much from Microsoft but if everything turns out well. They can gain the reputation back with the upcoming Surface Table and the new Technologies being developed all while giving Apple, Googler really really hard time.
Personal note: Linking to this article was wrong, there was no good news source and also the whole concept didn't make sense.

Eh, Apple fanboy meets Microsoft OS rumor?
It's a possibility, but the many inaccuracies elsewhere don't bolster credibility.
All Windows OSes are not based on DOS (ME was the last to include DOS/NT never did).
"Original" Windows is Windows 1.0 :). I doubt that team has been reassembled.
There's already two Windows OSes for devices (CE and Embedded) with over a decade headstart over OS X.
Surface runs Vista.
Zune/Smartphones run CE.
There could be an all-new OS in the works (here's hoping for Singularity-based w/ virtualization-based back-compat), but the only one I'd expect in 2008 is possibly their "cloud" OS. It's more likely, given the (somewhat) recent release of CE 6, this OS is either a specialization of that work (i.e., Windows Mobile 7), Vista embedded (either of which could probably make a 2008 release as well).
Could also be R2 or Seven, only the former which could appear in 2008, and neither of which is targeted specifically at devices.
Note: Omnigo is also the name of an x86-based HP palmtop that was soon replaced by devices running CE.

There's something ridiculous about that article (and I say article in the loosest sense). I'm surprised that it was included here. There's nothing substantial in it. It sounds made up.

The poor "Engrish", grammar and lack of facts makes this really stand out as false.
I'm really, truly shocked someone at ActiveWin would publish this rubbish. Can you just make up anything you want and send it in to ActiveWin to be included on the front page? It would certainly seem so. Why can't AW resources do at least a little bit of journalism and try to confirm this?

#3 I did put the bold text unconfirmed in front of the article for a reason. I did post it though, in the hope that someone would confirm or not confirm this, with a good explanation why/why not. I think #1 did a good job explaining why this news item is not true. Perhaps counting on the comments to confirm/not confirm the story wasn't a good idea.. lesson learned.

#4, exactly. When people visit a site like this they don't want to have to rely on unsubstantiated information from people they don't know in the form of comments to gauge whether a story has validity. That only makes it more bizarre and confusing.

Just to help you realize what a bad idea this post was... I don't think it's in ActiveWin's best interest to post something from any old fly-by-night website (the source is definitely in that category) and then rely on the comments to confirm or deny these items. If you're visiting a website to pick up news, you're looking for news that is confirmed and/or fairly reliable, not just any old rumor. Otherwise, this would turn into the Fox News of the web.
I'm glad a lesson was learned.
