Microsoft clocks up 500 patents in two months | |

In the last two months Microsoft has filed 500 patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Microsoft's patent push has been stimulated by a number of factors including competition and trying to make sure Microsoft's rivals don't get access to key innovations. However, the company also begun a broad intellectual property licensing push several years ago, under which it licenses technology to many companies big and small. The company has signed a slew of patent cross licensing deals since then, the most recent being Tuesday's deal with Japan's JVC. |

Lucent owns its patents legitimately.
Lucent is the remnants of Bell Labs after the AT&T break-up... unfortunately the breakup basically caused one of the most important R&D labs of our time to be it's own company without an actual product to sell rather than part of a larger whole doing R&D, thus destroying it... |

my point is... any increase in patent whoring on msft's part... is quite possibly the result of the hard-fault cases against lucent, eolas, and a dozen others... This post was edited by mooresa56 on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 16:26. |
