Select group of testers get new builds of XP SP3, Vista SP1 | |

Microsoft released yet more test builds of both Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3 and Windows Vista SP1 this week. Microsoft made the newest test build of XP SP3, which it is calling XP SP3 Release Candidate (RC) Refresh 2, available to 15,000 testers on January 23, Microsoft officials said. It also released a new refresh of its Vista SP1 build, known as Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2, to the same 15,000 testers on January 24, execs said. Microsoft made both builds available via its private Connect test site. |

| i just installed the new SP1. no more watermark and it just says "service pack 1" @ my computer, properties but it took sometime and we have to uninstall this for the final version plus it will expire that day that they release the final version. smart a** of them, we cannot see the final date!! |

Belto: Thanks for the notice on the non-specific expiration. I downloaded the 3 files from Connect and was just about to remove the previous refresh. The expiration date being the same as the unknown release date is something to think about first even though the Connect web site mentions that several refreshes can be done to extend the expiration date. I'm happy with the SP1 RC Refresh 1.
It takes WAY too damned long to remove and replace this every time :) In fact, once SP1 is final I'm going to do a bare-metal reload. I usually do this at major milestones/service packs anyway. Hopefully there wil be a slip-streamed DVD to download from TechNet. TL |

| TL - I know its a pain to uninstall/reinstall but thats the life of a beta tester :-) BTW, I think you'll find "Vista SP1 Refresh 2" feels much better than the refresh 1 build... |
