January 26th, 2008. Looks like Microsoft is NOT planning to release Windows 7 in 2009. Microsoft's official response, by an email dated 26th January, 2008, to WinVistaClub states that Windows 7 is still in the planning stage and will take approximately 3 years to develop. The following is the extract of the mail: Q. What is the expected timeline for the availability of Windows 7? A. We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately 3 years to develop. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release. |

They didn't say that it will not be released in 2009; they simply said it will take three years to develop. If they started in November 2006 (the release of Vista), then three years would be November 2009.

Indeed, Civisi is right:

You lot are taking it completely out of context. It could be 2010, 2009 or 2011, seeing as the word "approximately" was used. If you had ALSO included the last sentence "The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release," the proper context is revealed and shows that there isn't a planned release date. Even if there was, the date can easily slip, which is what most previous of versions of Windows did.

#4: Most??? Hmmm, Vista slipped. Of the remaining 13 versions listed below, I assume you can point out 7 more versions that had a release date slip. That would then put it into the "most" category.
