Thursday's Washington Post has a fascinating story about the technological challenges faced by the Obama administration as it moved into the White House following the inauguration. Mac-loving Obama staffers were flummoxed by all the out-of-date Microsoft software left over from the Bush administration -- to the point that they couldn't complete the most basic of online tasks.

Sorry, this is already old news. The facts are that the "state" of the hardware and software has more to do with security restrictions then anything else. For example, communicating via e-mail is extremely limited at the WH. Communications is either done by secure telephone or type written and hand carried by secure courier or transmitted through the most secure channels devised by the NSA.
By the way, the administration that Bush inherited maliciously sabotaged and defaced communications equipment among other things, when they didn't outright steal stuff, before departing the White House.
