Time: 09:02 EST/14:02 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

Due to a United States court ruling related to a custom XML markup implementation in Word 2003, MSDN, TechNet, and Expression Subscribers in the United States will not be allowed to download Office 2003 starting tomorrow, Saturday January 9, 2010. This does not affect subscribers in other countries.

All 36 languages of Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003 are affected. See below for a complete list of affected files. Starting on January 9, 2010, MSDN subscribers in the countries/territories listed below will not be allowed to download Office 2003 Enterprise/Professional. At this time, we do not have a date for when this restriction will be removed.

Interesting. Office 2007 has the same issue and yet only Office 2003 was pulled. Microsoft release updates for both suites to correct the issue. Sort of reminds me that Microsoft pulled Windows 95, 98 and Me (because of a Java issue I think) but you can still get Windows 3.11, DOS, ....

Also, seems that Microsoft gave no warning that these applications would be pulled.

Finally, the pulling affects only the US but not in Canada where the company that took Microsoft to court is based.

Judging from users on this site, Canadiens don't buy Microsoft Software - they only complain about it.
