"The Ribbon is designed to help you quickly find the commands that you need to complete a task. "

Bullshitcoughcoughbullshit :)

I hear more complaints from users about this damned ribbon interface than anything else.

Hopefully when we move to 2010, where they can actually modify it and create their own, the tribe will calm down a bit :)

@1

I have done around 50 000 deployment of Office 2007/2010, and actually, if the internals comminucation and training are well planned, the Ribbon is actually the users favorite tool...

I am personnally totally lost went working on a Office 2003...

Long live the Ribbon!!!

Pffft. The ribbon is a shiny toy and nothing more. Power users use keyboard shortcuts exclusively and only touch the mouse when they absolutely have to.

#4: My wife is similar to your Beth. As an advanced Office user, she can make amazing business documents and her hands never leave the keyboard. At 100+ wpm, the mouse slows her down tremendously. One of her idiot bosses one day harassed her for not using the mouse more. When my wife replied that she's much faster on the keyboard, the idiot says "But what if your keyboard breaks?" Sit and think about that a minute. If her keyboard breaks, she has much bigger problems to worry about that just switching to a mouse for all input. I guess Character Map would suffice for a virtual keyboard?... And then there's the problem of (wait for it) 'what if the mouse breaks?!?!' The idiot assumes that keyboards break all the time but mice are impervious?? Idiot^2.
