As long as chromeOS laptops cost the same or more than Windows machine with better hardware, I don't see it as a threat.
I think Windows 8 could be a game changer for the tablet arena. I look at my iPad and it is a great consumption tool but I wish it could do more. This post was edited by rxcall on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 09:57. |

| Should Google purchase Motorola Mobile, the door will open wide to current Droid smartphone makers that won't be able to trust Google for timely support. Phone 8 will finally have a real shot as long as MS doesn't take to long to release it. |

| #1: You're funny. While some microbots here guffaw about the Year of Linux on the Desktop, Linux has already won everywhere else that matters. Linux servers are everywhere; the majority of web servers are Linux. Linux dominates in the supercomputer space. Linux wins in the embedded space. Linux utterly trounces everyone else in the mobile space. What's left? Oh, the desktop, you know, the one that's getting less & less important with every passing year? Microsoft can have that one, as it's the only thing they seem to be able to brag about these days. |

| #3: Huh? Google bought the Motorola patents to protect themselves from the Microsoft cabal shakedown. Somehow this translates for you into Google screwing its partners? How do you get from A to B? Google isn't MS last I checked, so I doubt that partner-screwing is on their agenda. Plus, MS has had so many kicks at the mobile can that yet another round of "Microsoft will get it right THIS time" just ring so hollow. |

One more thing - I own an ipad and like it - as a reference tool. Case in point, I got a call from work to fix some user profiles. This was my chance to leverage that 800 bucks. I vpn'd into the network in about a minute. Wow that was much faster than booting up my laptop and starting the VPN. Next, I RDP'd into a remote server and this was where the it all slowed down. I tried a couple of different RDP clients but it was very difficult to make the changes to the software I was working with. When all was said and done, it probably took a little longer using the iPad. Maybe if I had an app for that particular piece of software, it would have been faster.
