Invitations to Windows 8 launch: 21 days and counting
Time: 10:15 EST/15:15 GMT | News Source: ZDNet | Posted By: Robert Stein

The Redmondians are continuing to torture us Microsoft watchers with a slow flow of information about its bet-its-business launch. We already knew Microsoft planned to launch Windows 8 and its ARM-based Surface RT devices in New York City on October 25, thanks to a save-the-date invitation we got a while back. We found out this week that Microsoft will be opening 30-plus holiday pop-up stores in the U.S. and Canada on October 26.

I am starting to get concerned about this platform; not because some losers can't handle the modern UI and the disappearance of the start menu but because I have yet to see any really compelling apps in the store (aside from games). Moreover, I find the discoverability of apps to be limited. It needs something a kin to an apple genius for recommendations based on what you already have. Maybe after more apps are released this will change.

Does anyone here know how to change the color of tiles pinned to the start screen by users? I pinned Shut Down and Restart but do not like the fixed color.
FYI: Created desktop shortcuts then pinned to Start with:
(Shutdown) C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 0
(Restart) C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /r /t 0

The default and seemingly unchangeable tile color is purple. Any tip to allow custom tiles to have their own color set, another switch, etc. would be appreciated.

By the way, Microsoft's virtual agent is a real POS. I do not see a link on the surface of their "partner" site any more to send questions. I miss the good old days when partners mattered to Microsoft.
