10 Reasons Customers Might Resist Windows 8 | |

Software giant Microsoft is launching the Windows 8 version of its operating system this week, and suffice it to say that it's radically different from Windows 7. The familiar Start button and menu are gone, for example, replaced by a series of large, colorful tiles. And there's a new feature called the "Charm Bar." Give Microsoft credit for innovation. But will corporate customers rush to embrace the change, or will they resist it at first? Signs point to resistance, according to Rosabeth Moss Kanter, the Ernest L. Arbuckle professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, and a leader in the field of change management. "Even in an era where young techies are looking to get the hottest and latest, people are resistant to change," she says. |

| I took the leap Monday and installed Windows 8 Pro. I didn’t do a clean install due the complex system I have and the number of programs and hardware that would have to be reinstalled. I chose the upgrade from Windows 7, keeping existing settings and files. This process took longer almost 55 minutes. The install asked one question, uninstall MS Security Essentials? The anti-virus is now part of the OS. I did the whole install within Windows 7. Upon completion Metro appeared, when I flipped to my desktop it was as the same original 7. Wallpaper, folders and programs were all there. MS Office, Chrome and Firefox. IE10 is remarkably fast. So far I’m extremely pleased, almost high. All my doubt's are gone. Even the task manager works better. Looks great on a 27" monitor. |

If you install Power Menu (not a start button replacement) it keeps the Windows 8 setup but adds a cascading menu accessed by right clicking on the Desktop. Shutdown, Hibernate, Restart, etc. are listed making taking these actions as easy as it was in Windows 7, same number of clicks. The following code can be copied and pasted into notepad and named with a .reg extension. The simply double click on it.

I installed IObit StartMenu8 free download, has a number of custom options. Has the new Win8 icon or the Win7 Orb as an option.
