Since the release of Microsoft Internet Explorer 3, I have been using the CacheX shareware. It's a small but efficient English program that allow every web surfers to efficiently dig into their system cache folder in order to retrieve files, to see old visited websites, to copy/delete/move files, sort items and much more. The brand new release 3 of CacheX is as good as the previous versions and brings new features:
Setup is very simple: once you've downloaded CacheX 3.0 simply launch the file and a few seconds later CacheX is ready to work on your favourite's computer.
The graphic user interface of CacheX is clear and easy to learn. It looks like an explorer window with a flat toolbar that allows you to perform cache related actions. Status bar, tooltips, Tip of the day and the complete help file will help novice users getting started.
The interesting thing of CacheX is that it displays the contents of your cache folder in an explorer-like window. So you'll be able to easy find your way into it and quickly retrieve the files you were looking for. Sincerely the cache listing of CacheX is more interesting that the one of MSIE that only allows you to see a little part of what you've already downloaded while surfing the web. When you launch CacheX, the left part of the window presents in a list the URLs of the websites you've visited. Simply double click an URL to see, in the right panel of the window, the files of this website. Like in the explorer, you can move, copy, paste, delete files and quickview them, thanks to the QuickView Plus support. Obviously you can double click a file to display it quickly! You can also display the properties of each file and due to the copy URL feature you can copy the URL of the selected file in order to use it later in your homepage, for example. CacheX offers filters to help you find the files you're looking for very quickly. An advanced searching feature is also included in this innovative software, so you'll be able to look into your cache folder to find for example MP3 files. But that's not all, far from that! You can create various categories to sort easily your cache data. The 'group by date' feature allows you to view websites sorted by your visiting date. CacheX even lets you import or export the cache contents even from Netscape Navigator!
One big interest of CacheX is that it can repair your Internet cache by deleting corrupted/orphaned/special entries. It can also remove orphaned files. And more interesting it can clears the expiration dates list. It also allows you to repair wrong file sizes and misversioned entries. All this actions can be done after testing the cache. Once the cache is tested the result will inform you of the current problems and you'll be able to fix them by pushing the repair all button. Finally you can compact all the cache entries to save space.
CacheX 3 really impressed us and we didn't find any critical comments to make about this software, as it's very good. For a reasonable price every Internet users will be able to use efficiently their Internet cache folder. It's also available for Netscape users. It's a must have, top-notch software that you should buy right now!
