Touchstone Home Video's ``Tim Burton's The
Nightmare Before Christmas - Special Edition'' features more than 60
magical minutes of bonus footage and is available for the first time
on video and DVD.
The Special Edition features two of Burton's
frightfully comical shorts: his directorial debut, ``Vincent''
(1982), about a boy's delusion that he's Vincent Price, and the
never-before-available uncut version of his horror spoof
``Frankenweenie'' (1984), a spoof of the Frankenstein horror film
genre. The DVD also includes a still-frame gallery,
storyboard-to-film comparison and deleted scenes. Film buffs will
appreciate the presentation of ``Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before
Christmas - Special Edition'' in the original theatrical aspect ratio
(1.66:1) selected by the filmmakers, using a master approved by
Burton himself. For the ultimate in DVD audio, it contains DTS 5.1
and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.
Preview Bonus Features on ``Tim Burton's The
Nightmare Before Christmas - Special Edition,'' Available for the

Trial
By Jury
He’s
guilty of murder. The feds have him dead to rights. At last there’s
no escape for this mob boss, a Teflon Don who has slipped free of
murder raps so many times before. But something goes wrong in the
jury room. Eleven jurors vote guilty. One woman, her life and family
threatened by the mob, votes to let the killer walk. And to set
things right, that woman will have to fight back with a vengeance.
In Trial By Jury, Joanne Whalley-Kilmer (Scarlett)
plays Valerie Alston, a dutiful juror thrust into a nightmare…and
forced by her plight to discover hidden resources she never
suspected she had. Armand Assante (The Mambo Kings) is the gangster
who vows death to Valerie and her son if she votes guilty. William
Hurt (Body Heat) as a cop turned mob lowlife and Gabriel Byrne
(Point Of No Return) as a zealous prosecutor add to the excitement
of this fast-paced action thriller.
Special Features: Scene
Access, Theatrical Trailer, Filmographies, Interactive Menus, Audio
Commentary
"Trial By Jury" is rated "R"
and has a running time of 100 minutes.
In
Dreams (1999)
Claire
Cooper’s (Annette Bening) peaceful family life takes a chilling
turn when a mysterious serial killer (Robert Downey Jr.) invades her
seemingly idyllic New England town…and haunts her dreams with dark
clues to his next deadly moves. With frightening accuracy, Claire
predicts his every turn, but still no one believes her.
Unable to convince the police, her doctor (Stephen
Rea) or even her husband (Aidian Quinn) of her mind-link with the
madman, Clair must confront the killer alone…and on his terms…before
another terrifying dream becomes a reality!
Special Features: Cast/Crew
Bios, Interactive Menus, Production Notes, Theatrical Trailer, Scene
Access
"In Dreams (1999)" is rated
"R" and has a running time of 100 minutes.
Body
Heat (1981)
Attorney
Ned Racine's life coasts along in neutral - until he meets a siren
in white (with a well-to-do husband) named Matty Walker. Ned knows
Matty's the kind of woman a man would kill to be with. So he does.
William Hurt and Kathleen Turner strike sparks in
Lawrence Kasdan’s Body Heat, a sexy, haunting tale echoing 1940s
film noir but charged with an energy and passion that can only flare
in the '80s. Kasdan’s assured directorial debut foreshadows the
emotional textures he would bring to later films The Big Chill, The
Accidental Tourist and Grand Canyon. Sit back and bask in this
contemporary classic’s wicked warmth.
Special Features: Interactive
Menus, Scene Access, Theatrical Trailer, Production Notes
"Body Heat (1981)" is rated
"R" and has a running time of 113 minutes.

Never mind the World Series. For some, the only
game in town was at Software Etc., where hard-core gamers lined up
to get the Sony PlayStation2
``If you're a gamer, you have to have one,'' said
30-year-old Gabrielle Aldort of New York, one of many people who
pre-ordered the $299 console in February.
The latest version of Sony's video game console
went on sale at midnight Wednesday at hundreds of stores across
North America. In fact, initial demand for the new PlayStation was
expected to be so great that Sony has already said it will not be
able to meet it.

the doomed passengers turn to a vicious convict (Vin Diesel) with
an appetite for destruction and eerie eyes that can guide them
through the darkness.

With dazzling, near-film-quality graphics,
Sony's new video-game machine PlayStation2 is having a huge
impact in a related industry: Japan's fledgling DVD market.
Since March, more than 3 million
PlayStation2's have been sold in Japan. In the first eight
months of this year, DVD sales nearly quadrupled to 16 million,
compared to the same period the previous year, according to the
Japan Video Software Association, an industry group.
``We anticipated this giant boost from
PlayStation2 and began expanding our DVD section ahead of
time,'' Ayako Kobori, spokeswoman for Culture Convenience Club
Co, said Tuesday. ``Some people are using PlayStation2 more to
play DVDs than to play games.''

Panasonic
and MedioStream announced today the compatibility of
MedioStream's Medio MVision(TM) real-time MPEG-2 software
encoder and Panasonic's 4.7GB DVD-RAM drive. By integrating
Medio MVision and the Panasonic rewritable DVD drive, OEMs,
value-added resellers and system integrators can provide
their customers with a cost-effective solution for DVD video
encoding, decoding, high-capacity storage and exceptionally
smooth video playback.
Designed
to work with any standard Pentium II or III system, Medio
MVision delivers the same clean, crisp DVD video quality that
more expensive, hardware-based MPEG-2 encoders deliver, but
at a fraction of the cost. With MedioStream's advanced
algorithm, Medio MVision can compress captured video on the
fly, without causing any motion artifacts and without
requiring dedicated hardware. In addition to being able to
process 30 fps video with up to full D1 (720x480) resolution,
Medio MVision can be integrated to support all of the DVD
features, including navigation, MPEG-2 and Dolby® Digital
(AC-3) decoding, video/audio synchronization, decryption, 3D
audio, and more. Its unique and flexible bit-rate control
mechanism also makes it ideal for DVD authoring, video
editing, and video streaming.

Ad circulars in weekend newspapers began
touting the PlayStation 2 (PS2), although retailers concede
that your chances of getting one are slim when the game
console debuts Thursday.
The ads themselves sound promising.
Target, for example, is offering a free vertical stand to
those who buy the game console at Sony's suggested retail
price of $299. Best Buy is also selling units for $299 and
including a PS2 coupon book. Circuit City said it will offer
the game console for $349, throwing in the Fantavision game,
Gameshark sampler disk, and other goodies.
However, the fine print was less
encouraging. Neither Target nor Best Buy are offering rain
checks, meaning it's catch as catch can. Circuit City has a
warning on its Web site
that there are only a "small number" of
machines in each store and that it expects they will sell
out within minutes of stores opening at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Blade
Runner: The Director's Cut
Rick
Deckard (Harrison Ford) prowls the steel-and-microchip
jungle of 21st-century Los Angeles. He's a Blade Runner
stalking genetically made criminal replicants. His
assignment: kill them. Their crime: wanting to be human.
The story of Blade Runner is familiar
to countless fans, but few have seen it like this.
Because this is director Ridley Scott's own vision of
his sci-fi classic. This new version omits Deckard's
voiceover narration, develops in slightly greater detail
the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and
removes the "uplifting" finale. The result is
a heightened emotional impact: a great film made
greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included
unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may be a humanoid.
Do Androids dream of electric sheep? Is Deckard a
replicant? As with all things in the future, you must
discover the answer for yourself.
Special Features: Scene Access,
Production Notes, Interactive Menus
"Blade Runner: The Director's
Cut" is rated "R" and has a running time
of 117 minutes.

Run,'' will be accompanied on the $9.99 DVD by three
additional Aardman shorts, ``Wat's Pig,'' ``Not Without
My Handbag'' and ``Adam.''
These
classic Aardman shorts, like ``Chicken Run'' and the
``Wallace & Gromit'' series, were produced using a
clay animation process with stop-action cinematography.
``Creature Comforts'' will be presented in anamorphic
widescreen and the other three shorts will be featured
in their original full-frame configurations. The
35-minute program will be in Dolby Digital stereo and
close captioned for the deaf and hearing impaired.

Revolutionary
hologram technology made Hologram Time
Traveler an instant hit in the arcades in 1991
and now Digital Leisure has brought the 3D
experience to your home computer or DVD movie
player for the first time ever. You control
Marshall Gram as he journeys through time to
save Princess Kyi-La on your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
computer, or DVD movie player using the remote
control.
Selling
over $18,000,000.00 in its arcade debut,
Hologram Time Traveler remains the first and
only coin-operated arcade game to deliver a
real 3D hologram experience. To maintain this
hologram feel, Digital Leisure is including
free 3D glasses with its CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and
DVD-Video versions. A 2D version is included
on the same disc that may be played without

Based
on the current record breaking performance of
DVD-Video, the format continues its dramatic
growth. According to the Consumer Electronics
Association (CEA), in the third quarter of
2000, DVD player shipments were nearly 2.5
million units. This is 120 percent more than
shipped in the same period of 1999.
Launch-to-date,
more than 10 million DVD players have been
shipped to retailers, a benchmark of success
for any consumer electronics product.
DVD-Video reached this milestone faster than
any other home electronics product including
the compact disc and VHS. If growth continues
at this rate, there will be nearly nine
million DVD-Video players shipped to
retailers in calendar 2000, bringing the
total units shipped since the format's
inception to more than 14 million.
