Well, I hope that this gets you off to a good start with understanding what Exchange really is and if it is the system for you.  Microsoft has done another great job for a mail system with Exchange 2000.  It is clear that they are laying the .Net framework with this BackOffice Product turning Exchange into the perfect BackOffice product to widely expose the .Net vision.  The Web Storage System included in Exchange 2000 along with the ExIFS gives us all a clear look at how effective databases can be when it comes to replacing a normal file system in favor of something that can be more tightly integrated with the web.  Exchange 2000’s databases can be navigated through just like the File System in Windows 2000, and even assigned permissions in the same way that they are assigned through NTFS.  The information in Exchange 2000 can be accessed through web browsers, Office applications and even handheld devices.  This is the Foundation of the Future for Microsoft.  Welcome to Exchange.
